DT1050 Digitalker Standard Vocabulary Kit

A voice in three chips

National Semiconductor’s December 1980 datasheet presents the DT1050 as a standard Digitalker vocabulary kit. The MM54104 reconstructs speech from external memory; the MM52164-SSR1 and MM52164-SSR2 ROMs supply the encoded words. A filter, amplifier, speaker, supply, and control circuitry complete the talking system.

Words for instruments and announcements

The supplied vocabulary contains 137 words, two tones, and five silence durations: 144 selectable expressions in total. Letters, numbers, directions, measurement terms, and warning words can be assembled into useful announcements. The pauses let the designer separate words and phrases.

The kit and the evaluation board

The DT1050 provided the essential speech components for a designer’s own circuit. The DT1000 / MA6100 Digitalker Evaluation Board added control circuitry, a keypad, and demonstration functions. They belong to the same Digitalker system but are different products.
