SynPhonix 216

A dedicated voice for computer access

The SynPhonix 216 was a later internal speech synthesizer from Artic Technologies. It belonged to a product family used to give desktop computers spoken output, particularly for access by blind computer users.

The National Federation of the Blind’s International Braille & Technology Center listed the 216 as the latest SynPhonix model in its March 1999 computer resource guide and described it as working with Windows 95. The guide listed Artic’s internal synthesizer range from $395. That is a period family starting price, rather than a confirmed price for one configuration of the 216.

The earlier SynPhonix 200 and this later model belong to the same manufacturer’s history, but their hardware and software should be treated as separate products.
