Apple II configurations VR03 and VR04 combined the SP1000 recognition/synthesis components with an SSI-263 phoneme synthesizer and text-to-speech software. Other listed configurations omitted that SSI-263 option. The component relationships here distinguish the optional speech hardware from the base configuration.
