Androbot TOPO II

The TOPO that could talk

Androbot’s TOPO II added speech to the TOPO concept of a robot directed by a host computer. Its voice came from an ECHO speech module built around the Texas Instruments TMS5220.

The chip reconstructs speech from LPC parameters, rather than using the Votrax phoneme synthesis found in Heathkit’s earlier robots. The speech-equipped TOPO II should be distinguished from the original TOPO, which lacked this onboard voice.
