Sound and speech on one board

Gottlieb’s System 80 service schematic labels this assembly Sound/Speech Board A6. It identifies the SC-01 voice synthesizer at U14 alongside an R6532 RIOT, digital-to-analog converters, and an LM379S amplifier. Sound effects and phoneme speech therefore shared a dedicated audio subsystem.

MA-216 boards were not all populated or programmed identically. A game using this board family did not necessarily speak. The speech-equipped configuration is the subject of this exhibit.
